Warm evening light over grasses by the water — support for Noonan syndrome

When Your Child Receives a Noonan Syndrome Diagnosis

A Noonan syndrome diagnosis changes everything. Suddenly you are faced with terms like pulmonary stenosis, growth hormone therapy, and the RAS-MAPK signalling pathway. You sit in waiting rooms across cardiology, endocrinology, and genetics, trying to understand how it all connects. Nobody explains the bigger picture.

Between the appointments, you wonder if there is something you can do at home, alongside the medical care, to make daily life a little easier. Something gentle. Something that fits your family. Detailed medical information about Noonan syndrome is available from the Noonan Syndrome Foundation and Orphanet.

Herbal support for children with Noonan syndrome is not a replacement for the cardiologist or the geneticist. It is a complement. A way to support your child's immune system, digestion, and emotional balance in everyday life, working with the medical team, never against it.

I know this feeling. Not from textbooks, but from my own life. Read our family's story.

You are not alone.
Families with Noonan children find me from across Europe, the UK, the US, and beyond.

Child with Noonan syndrome on a go-kart — Elena Cajka's personal experience as a Noonan mother

Why Me?

"When I found out my child had Noonan syndrome and ADHD, I searched everywhere for someone who truly understood. I want to be that person for you."

When my own child was diagnosed, I stood exactly where you are now. I had to make decisions with significant consequences. I lacked information. I lacked someone who could explain the connections in a way I could understand. There was no bridge between the individual specialists.

Today, as a Naturopathic Practitioner TEN, I support other families living with a Noonan syndrome diagnosis. In my consultations, I combine my personal experience as a Noonan mother with my professional expertise in phytotherapy.

I share our family's full story and what has helped us along the way in this personal article.

How Medicinal Plants Can Support Children with Noonan Syndrome

Herbal support for children with Noonan syndrome does not replace your child's medical treatment. It works hand in hand with it. My approach focuses on areas where medicinal plants can ease daily life: immune resilience, digestion, sleep, and emotional balance. Always alongside the cardiologist, endocrinologist, and your paediatrician. Never instead of them.

Quick facts about Noonan syndrome:

Cardiac defects affect up to 80% of children with Noonan syndrome (Noonan Syndrome Foundation). Coeliac disease is approximately 10× more common than in the general population. The condition stems from a genetic mutation in the RAS-MAPK signalling pathway. Every Noonan child is different. Symptoms and severity vary widely.

Echinacea (Coneflower) Children with Noonan syndrome are often more susceptible to infections, particularly recurrent ear infections and respiratory illnesses. Echinacea is traditionally regarded as supportive for the body's natural defences. As drops or a child-friendly syrup, it can be used preventively during cold and flu season.

Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) Many Noonan children show behavioural difficulties, restlessness, or sleep problems. Lemon balm has been known for generations for its calming properties. As an evening tea or a gentle tincture, it can help ease the transition into sleep. Particularly for children who also show ADHD symptoms, lemon balm has often proven helpful in my consultations.

Fennel-Anise-Caraway (blend) Feeding difficulties and digestive problems are among the most common everyday challenges for Noonan children, especially in infancy. Coeliac disease also occurs at roughly ten times the rate of the general population in children with Noonan syndrome, so digestive sensitivity deserves close attention. The classic fennel-anise-caraway blend as a tea can gently support digestion and ease stomach cramps. This traditional combination has also proven effective for older children with sensitive stomachs.

Hawthorn (Crataegus) Since heart defects occur in up to 80% of people with Noonan syndrome, cardiac health is central. Hawthorn is traditionally used in phytotherapy to support heart function and is considered a gentle cardiac tonic. Important: Hawthorn does not replace cardiological treatment, and any use should be cleared with your treating cardiologist beforehand.

Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) Chamomile is one of the most versatile medicinal plants in children's health. For Noonan children, I often use it for skin irritations, mild inflammations, and general calming. As a bath, compress, or tea, it is well tolerated even by the youngest children and has been valued in traditional herbal medicine for generations.

Every Noonan child is different. Which medicinal plants suit your child, in what form, and at what dose, is something we work out together in a consultation. See how online consultations work.

Who I Work With

  • Parents of children with Noonan syndrome. You are looking for plant-based support alongside the medical team. Perhaps your child has frequent infections, digestive problems, sleep difficulties, or behavioural challenges. You want to know what else you can do.

  • Adults living with Noonan syndrome. Adults benefit from herbal support too, for stress, fatigue, immune resilience, and digestion. Many of the same medicinal plants suit grown-up bodies in adjusted doses.

  • Families worldwide. Through online consultations via video, I work with families everywhere. Five languages: German, English, French, Italian, Greek.

More Than Medicinal Plants: A Holistic Approach

Phytotherapy is one piece. It never stands alone. In my consultations, I look at the whole picture. How does your child eat. How is their sleep. How are they managing at school or nursery. Are there pressures at home that affect wellbeing.

With Noonan children especially, close collaboration with the treating doctors and therapists is non-negotiable. I see myself as a bridge. Between conventional medical care and gentle plant-based support in everyday life. Always alongside the medical team. Never instead of them.

Your Path to Working With Me

Step 1: Free 15-minute Get-to-Know Call. We meet, parent to parent. You tell me about your situation. We see if we are a good fit. By WhatsApp call, video, or phone, whatever works for you.

Step 2: Initial consultation (about 60 minutes). I take the time you need. We discuss your child's history, existing medical reports, your daily routine, and your questions. From this, an individual herbal plan emerges.

Step 3: Follow-ups as needed (about 60 minutes each). Medicinal plants need time. We observe how your child responds and adjust the plan. Give the body time.

All steps are available online via Zoom, WhatsApp, or Skype. Worldwide. Five languages.

EMR-registered Naturopath. Many Swiss supplementary insurance plans cover part of the cost. For international families, I provide detailed invoices for potential reimbursement through your local insurance.

Noonan Syndrome and ADHD: The Connection I Live With

Many children with Noonan syndrome also show ADHD-like challenges: attention difficulties, impulsivity, struggles at school. My own child has both diagnoses. In every consultation where Noonan and ADHD overlap, I draw on both my professional training and lived experience as a mother of a child with both conditions.

No Miracles, Just Continuity

Hi, my name is Elena. I am the mother of a child with Noonan syndrome and ADHD, and a Naturopathic Practitioner TEN. I want to be honest with you about what I offer, and what I do not.

I cannot offer a cure. Noonan syndrome is a genetic condition that walks with your child for life. No herb changes that. No therapy erases it. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not telling you the truth.

What I can offer is continuity. Steady, careful, plant-based support that adapts as your child grows. Through the cold-and-flu seasons. Through the school years. Through the cardiology appointments and the endocrinology check-ups. Through the days when everything feels too much.

Many families come to me after years of fragmented care, where each specialist sees one piece but no-one holds the whole picture. I aim to be that companion, alongside your medical team, never instead of them. I have walked this road with my own child, and I am still walking it.

Whether you are in Zurich, across Europe, or on the other side of the world, our work together can be steady. Online consultations make distance smaller. Five languages make first conversations easier.

No quick promises, no miracle cures. Just an honest look and a natural approach that has stood the test of time.
